OVAL Executive Director/Curator
Jule McClellan has been the Executive Director/Curator of the Ohio Valley Art League from its inception in 1991. Ms. McClellan served as Curator of the Soaper Arts Center, Henderson, KY, from 1988 to 1990. Ms. McClellan was the founding force of the Ohio Valley Art League and was instrumental in organizing the Kentucky National Wildlife Art Exhibit, Wildlife in the Park and other related activities. Ms. McClellan spearheaded the installation of the first public sculpture to be placed in Henderson, KY, at the Henderson Fine Arts Center in September 2001.
She is the owner of Painting In Kentucky Workshops bringing nationally recognized artists to the Tri-state area to conduct water media workshops. Ms. McClellan is Northwest Regional Director for the Kentucky Watercolor Society. Ms. McClellan was the visual arts leader for five years at the Hebbardsville Elementary School, where she created and implemented a visual arts program under the KERA program for kindergarten through sixth grade. Ms. McClellan taught in the gifted program at the fourth grade level for Henderson County Schools.
Ms. McClellan has been painting for twenty-seven years. She primarily works in watercolor but also enjoys creating collage artwork. Ms. McClellan creates paintings from the rural scenes and people in and around Kentucky. Her work has been accepted in numerous exhibits, where she has won awards. Ms. McClellan's painting, titled "2:30 p.m.- Taking A Break", was selected from over 4000 entries for inclusion in the BEST of WATERCOLOR SERIES - PAINTING LIGHT & SHADOW published by Rockport Publishers, Rockport, MA.
Ms. McClellan was the recipient of the1999 Community Service Award, presented by the DAR, for her work in the arts. Ms. McClellan was selected as a "Home Town Hero", by the Gleaner Newspaper in 2002, for her service to the visual arts.
