Join The Ohio Valley Art League (OVAL) for its next Ohio Valley River Paint Out on September 13, 14 & 15, 2012 in historic/quaint Henderson, KY. You will find beautiful scenes along the Ohio River and tree lined streets shading Victorian homes that will provide a perfect set up for painting. Henderson offers four parks. In downtown you will find Central Park, the oldest city park west of the Allegany’s, Sunset, Audubon Mill Park and Red Banks Parks are located on the Ohio River.
Henderson was the home of artist and naturalist John James Audubon for ten years. Audubon Park and Museum features beautiful trees and an abundance of wildlife that would please any artist. The museum has a world- renowned collection of John James Audubon’s personal memorabilia and an elephant portfolio of the Birds of America.
Several famous artists have called Henderson home. W. C. Handy lived here for ten years and married a Hendersonian, and Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman surgeon, spent several years here. Kentucky Governor A. B. “Happy” Chandler was born and grew-up in Henderson County.
Take an evening stroll on the quiet streets of Henderson or watch the sun set on the banks of the Ohio. Dine on the famous Western Kentucky barbeque, all of this and more can be found in our fair city.
This year's event included lunch on Thursday and Friday, a demo/lecture for participating artists and cash awards selected by juror. A “Best of Show” award, an award for the best scene representing the ambience of the Ohio River, plus 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards in three divisions (oil/acrylic, pastel, & watercolor) were presented.
